Jewelry Care

Ach Ach Liebling jewelry is designed for everyday wear - no extra-special precautions are necessary. Please, dance up a sweat, frolic in a warm rain, spill your drink, muss your hair, be spontaneous and don't give your accessories a second thought - they'll be a-ok, I promise.

That said, it's never advisable to wear jewelry while rock-climbing or deep-sea diving, and Ach Ach Liebling can't be responsible for damage or breaks that happen in the course of really rough or unusual use of an item. In general, it's a good idea to be aware of what things are made of so you know how not to break them. All our plastic necklaces are treated with a topcoat that protects the prints from water and sun damage, but we still recommend you remove jewelry for swimming and showering. Plastic, wood, bone, silver, copper, brass and gold are relatively soft materials that can be scratched and marred by sharp or hard objects.

Silver, copper and brass will tarnish with time. Many people like the texture and depth of a natural patina, but if you prefer your metal spotless, it is perfectly easy to wipe it down with a dab of metal polish on a clean rag or a jeweler's polishing cloth (both easily available from your local hardware store, jeweler, or even a well-stocked drug store or supermarket). Make sure to wipe off any residue from the polish with a clean piece of cloth, and presto - shiny new!

If your piece of jewelry has a verdigris or other patina you do not wish to lose, then never, ever apply any kind of polish to it. If you want to lighten it only slightly, take a small piece of Scotch-Brite or steel wool and gently scour the surface in a circular motion. Be careful and go slowly! You are removing material, so if you press too hard you may wipe out fine detail, and this process is not easily reversible.

Our Name

Everyone asks. Ach Ach Liebling is German for Oh Oh Darling. Our name comes from a song of the same title by the band Stereo Total, whose song "ach ach liebling" is in turn a cover of a 1960's French pop hit "Oh Oh Chérie" made famous by Françoise Hardy.
